TransAlta Corp. said Monday that it has begun a public offering of its senior notes in the U.S. to repay certain of its debts.

The Canadian clean-energy company said that it intends to use the proceeds to repay 100 million Canadian dollars (US$75.4 million) drawn on its credit facility as well as replace balance-sheet cash which it used to repay its unsecured senior notes on Nov. 15.

TransAlta said it would also allocate an equal amount of money to what it raises towards new or existing eligible green projects in line with its green-bond framework.

The company said the details of the offering, including the timing, size and terms, are subject to market conditions.
