Greg Hyslop, the Boeing Co. chief engineer who joined McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co. in 1982, will retire in June.

Howard McKenzie, the top engineer at Boeing's commercial airplanes unit, succeeds Mr. Hyslop as chief engineer and will be executive vice president, Engineering, Test & Technology.

Effective Wednesday, Mr. McKenzie takes over leadership of the company's 57,000 engineers worldwide, Boeing said.

Mr. Hyslop will support the leadership transition through June as chief engineer emeritus, working on program management, leadership development and university relations efforts.
