Grupo Aeromexico SAB de CV said Friday that it would add 24 new
Boeing 737 aircraft as part of its restructured agreements with the
manufacturer and certain lessors.
The Mexico City-based airline holding company said the
additional aircraft include B737-8 and B737-9 MAX as well as four
787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The company said that it expects its first aircraft this year,
with nine offering service beginning this summer, and the rest
slated to arrive in the second half of 2021 and into the following
year.
Aeromexico said these transactions allow it to modify long-term
maintenance contracts and reduce leasing costs of 18 other aircraft
that are currently part of its fleet, with an estimated total
savings of about $2 billion.
"It will also give us flexibility to complete other negotiations
and put Aeromexico on a strong path to exit Chapter 11 later this
year," Chief Executive Andres Conesa said.
