BigBand Doubles High Definition Advertising and Stream Processing Capacity for Broadcast Video Platform
March 16 2010 - 5:30AM
Business Wire
BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:BBND), a leader in digital video
networking, today announced the availability of its Broadcast Video
Services Software 3.0, which supports the increasing demand for
advertising on high definition (HD) content and growing HD program
line-ups enabled by Switched Digital Video (SDV). The upgrade to
the large installed base of Broadband Multimedia Routers (BMR®)
enables customers to deploy up to 150% more HD advertising and
process up to 140% more individual HD program streams on deployed
and highly reliable network infrastructure.
The BMR is a field-proven and high-performance solution
supporting in excess of 60 million subscribers worldwide and
delivering over 700 million advertising transactions a year.
“The BMR has the proven performance to accommodate the explosion
in HD content libraries, the surge in projected ad spends, the
migration to addressable advertising, interactive services, and the
anticipated rollout of 3D TV,” said Paul Crann, vice president,
product management, BigBand Networks. “This platform enables our
customers to quickly ramp additional advertising revenues
seamlessly and cost effectively. The BMR’s successful track record
has established it as a proven, reliable and high-quality platform.
This software upgrade continues to utilize our customers’ existing
investment while leveraging an outstanding operational track
record.”
The BigBand BMR is one of the most reliable and first-rate
platforms on the market today, designed to be carrier-class and
proven to deliver five 9’s availability. It supports a variety of
applications, including digital simulcast, digital TV management,
digital ad insertion, addressable advertising, Enhanced TV, HDTV
and SDV.
The Broadcast Video Services Software 3.0 enhancements reduce
power costs and free up valuable rack space that operators can use
to deploy additional services. For existing BMR deployments,
customers benefit from increased splicing, clamping and rate
shaping with no need for additional hardware. The new software
upgrade further reduces configuration complexity for ease of
deployment and management.
