Dixon Ticonderoga Company is extremely excited to announce that National Handwriting Day may soon be congressionally recognized, thanks to a resolution introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20) and Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-7)! With help from the Writing Instrument Manufacturers Association (WIMA), in which we have been a member of for over 40 years, the 41st anniversary of National Handwriting Day, occurring on January 23rd, 2018, will be a very special one.

Congressman Tonko will visit the second-grade class of Mrs. Grosso at Rosendale Elementary School in Niskayuna, New York at 1 p.m. EST on National Handwriting Day, January 23rd, 2018, to introduce the congressional resolution designating the day. The resolution recognizes the importance of handwriting for cognitive, artistic and educational benefits. Congressman Tonko will discuss with the students the importance of handwriting and his personal commitment to handwriting, as they also engage with him about their current classwork in writing lists, letters, invitations, and messages.

The congressional resolution, H.Res.654, also acknowledges John Hancock, whose birthday is on January 23rd. The resolution also emphasizes the educational benefits of handwriting for children, as well as the cognitive development and motor skills benefit.
