American Express Co. Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Chenault
said that he is pleased with spending trends during the holiday
season so far, noting that Cyber Monday "represented the single
largest billings day in our history."
AmEx refers to spending as "billed business," or the dollar
amount of charges on its cards.
Speaking at a financial-services conference, Mr. Chenault also
said he is pleased with the company's participation in Apple Inc.'s
new mobile-payments platform, Apple Pay.
"Our cardmembers have a great affinity for Apple products and
service. They are power users and, as you can expect, they are
already highly engaged with Apple Pay," he said.
