-   WBB's German Division in negotiations to purchase
    additional mining rights


Fuchs'sche Tongruben GmbH ('Fuchs'), the main German
operating company of leading international ball clay
producer Watts Blake Bearne & Co PLC ('WBB'), today
announces that it is at an advanced stage of negotiation
with Keramchemie GmbH ('KCH') for the purchase of
extensive rights to mine high-quality ball (or "plastic")
clays in an existing quarry and in the important
Berggarten concession, situated in the Westerwald region
of Germany.

KCH, who are selling for strategic reasons, estimates
there are 10 million tonnes of accessible reserves of
clay in the concession.  This would secure Fuchs'
position as one of the leading suppliers of ceramic raw
materials in the region for decades to come.

Both parties are intent on bringing the deal to a
successful conclusion by the year end, at which point a
further announcement will be made.
