Sharp Mulls Options to Restructure Europe Operations
July 03 2014 - 9:30PM
Dow Jones News
TOKYO--Sharp Corp. (6753.TO) said Friday it was exploring
various options to make structural changes to its operations in
Europe but had yet to reach any decision.
The statement came after local media reports in Japan that the
company would stop producing liquid crystal display televisions in
Europe and license sales and production to Taiwan's TPV Technology
Ltd., while licensing sales of domestic appliances in Europe to
Turkish firm Vestel.
A report in the Nikkei said about 300 people, or 10% of the
Sharp's workforce in Europe, would lose their jobs as a result of
the move, with additional job cuts possible.
