Airbus SE on Monday issued a new, slightly higher 20-year
forecast for global plane deliveries as it expects airlines will
speed up work to replace old aircraft with newer, more
fuel-efficient models.
The European plane maker said that it expects 39,490 new planes
to be delivered world-wide by 2041.
Of that number, Airbus expects 38,600 to be passenger planes and
890 to be cargo freight planes.
In November, the company had expected 39,020 new plane
deliveries in its previous 20-year forecast.
However, Airbus also said it now expects demand for passenger
traffic to grow 3.6% annually over the next 20 years, a slight
downgrade from the company's previous forecast of 3.9% annual
growth, as it expects higher energy costs to hurt consumer
demand.
The company said that 20% of the world's feet of planes is of
the latest generation and the pace with which airlines update their
fleets will likely increase in the future, as they attempt to reach
sustainability targets and cut down on fuel costs.
