Linde PLC finalized an agreement with Hyosung Corp. to build a
large liquid-hydrogen site in Ulsan, South Korea, set to go online
in 2023.
The industrial gas maker said Thursday that the plant, with a
capacity of 30 tons a day, will create enough hydrogen to fuel
100,000 cars and cut 130,000 tons of carbon-dioxide tailpipe
emissions a year.
Under the partnership, Linde said it will also help build, own
and operate a nationwide network of hydrogen refueling
stations.
The plant will support South Korea's ambition of net-zero
greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050, Linde said.
"The South Korean government has set ambitious targets for
hydrogen-powered fuel-cell vehicles and the widespread, reliable
availability of liquid hydrogen will be instrumental to achieving
these targets," B.S. Sung, president of Linde Korea, said in
prepared remarks.
