CommScope Introduces New Two-Piece Connector for Wireless Transmission Line Systems New patent-pending design reduces installation time, improves reliability and enhances performance HICKORY, N.C., March 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CommScope, Inc. (NYSE:CTV), a world leader in cable and connectivity solutions, today announced a new two-piece connector that improves transmission performance while reducing on-site termination time. The new 1873 B-Series connector and 1873 PT cable preparation tool are engineered to provide the most effective cable-to-connector interface in the industry when properly installed. Both new products are designed for 1-5/8" Cell Reach(R) cables. "We are pleased to offer carriers and installers an improved connector design that offers high performance and reduces craftsmanship issues," said Ted Hally, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CommScope Wireless and Carrier Solutions. "CommScope has a reputation for introducing innovative products. We believe the B-Series two-piece connector and cable preparation tool are products that ease the work of installers and improve system performance for operators by providing high performance and easy connectorization in the field." The 1873 PT cable preparation tool, which provides consistent termination and reduces on-site craft issues, is a two-piece coring tool designed specifically for the 1873 B-Series connector. Based on published specifications, the Company expects the new 1873 B-Series connector to offer several key advantages including approximately 40% lower connector insertion loss and improved return loss for a higher performance connector. Installers are not required to remove the adhesive from the outer conductor with the B-Series design, thus eliminating one step of the installation process and reducing the risk of poor connectorization resulting from damage to the outer conductor. Compared to traditional connectors, the B-Series is also lighter, more corrosion resistant and requires less torque to properly tighten the connector to the cable. In addition, the B-Series two-piece connector creates a tight seal to prevent moisture ingress and meets the International Electrotechnical Commission publication 529, IP68 test. Eliminating water ingress in the cable assembly removes a major cause of cable and connector failure in the transmission system. This reduces maintenance and downtime costs over the life of the site.
