- Engine will power new Bombardier CSeries aircraft, Mitsubishi Regional Jet SINGAPORE, Feb. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SINGAPORE AIRSHOW -- Goodrich Corporation's (NYSE:GR) maintenance, repair and overhaul campus in Singapore is developing key nacelle system components for the Pratt & Whitney PurePower® PW1000G engine. The engine will power the new Bombardier CSeries commercial aircraft and Mitsubishi MRJ regional jet. Primary activities being performed in Singapore include the engine nacelle's fan cowl doors, inlet outer barrels and thrust reverser outer cowl design and analysis. The new work leverages the company's development of nacelle components for the engine's demonstrator program in 2007 and early 2008. The nacelle components for the PurePower engine are produced using a resin film infusion process developed by Goodrich, which contributes to greater durability at a lighter weight than conventional production methods. J.C. Langlois, leader of geared turbofan nacelle programs for Goodrich's Aerostructures business, said, "While our Singapore operation has made its reputation as a world-class maintenance, repair and overhaul facility, it is also playing an integral role in our development of the nacelle system for the PurePower PW 1000G engine." The PW1000G engine has an advanced gear system that allows the engine's fan to operate at a slower speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. The combination of the gear system and all-new advanced core is expected to deliver double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency and environmental emissions and a 50 percent reduction in noise. Goodrich was selected as the exclusive nacelle system provider for the engine in 2008. Its Singapore facility has been involved in the engine since the program's inception, providing fan cowl doors and other components for the demonstrator and flight test engines.
