Vivendi SA (VIV.FR) is seeking to raise at least 7 billion euros
($8.9 billion) from the sale of Brazilian unit GVT, Reuters news
agency reported Wednesday on its website, citing two unnamed
sources.
At least four bidders including Brazil's Oi SA (OIBR), Mexico's
America Movil SAB (AMX), DirecTV (DTV) and Telecom Italia SpA (TI)
have expressed interest in GVT and are taking part in initial
talks, the report said. Several investment funds have also shown
interest in GVT, the report cited one of the sources as saying.
A Vivendi spokesman declined comment, while calls to Oi and
America Movil weren't answered and a Telecom Italia spokesman
didn't have an immediate comment, the report said.
An earlier Wall Street Journal story said DirecTV confirmed
Monday it might consider bidding for GVT, although the sales
process is still in an early phase.
