Quovadx, Inc. (Nasdaq: QVDX), a global software and vertical
solution company, today announced it has entered into an agreement
with 3M Health Information Systems to achieve greater clinical
interoperability in hospitals by integrating components of the 3M
Healthcare Data Dictionary as an added feature of Quovadxs
Cloverleaf Integration Services. Cloverleaf will utilize 3M Data
Transformation Modules to codify competing data values from various
databases into one language to facilitate the work of healthcare
professionals and promote patient safety. The 3M Healthcare Data
Dictionary is a terminology server that manages ongoing updates
from standard terminologies as well as local additions and changes
from healthcare facilities. The dictionarys mapping capabilities
allow healthcare enterprise data to be exchangeable and
interoperable throughout the world via standard codes. By using the
3M Data Transformation Modules as an added feature of Quovadxs
Cloverleaf Integration Services, customers will be able to
translate existing codes into HIPAA-compliant billing and clinical
information standards. Quovadxs strong customer relationships
combined with 3Ms expertise in terminologies will allow us to
expand our offerings and leverage our joint capabilities to improve
overall patient care, said Lee Min Lau, M.D., Ph.D., 3M Health
Information Systems chief medical informaticist. By providing a
single source of medical vocabularies that can be rapidly updated
based on input from standards bodies, the 3M Healthcare Data
Dictionary enables healthcare applications to reference the latest
terminology versions and make the most effective use of clinical
information. With more than 860,000 medical concepts, the 3M
Healthcare Data Dictionary is the most comprehensive terminology
server in the world, unifying standard and local vocabularies
rather than leaving them as disparate non-interoperable islands.
The dictionary describes the relationships among clinical events
and terminologies in a way that gives them meaning and context, and
helps healthcare professionals understand the impact of
terminologies on clinical systems, data repositories and electronic
health records. The 3M Data Transformation Modules leverage this
rich terminology and knowledge base to achieve semantic
interoperability among disparate systems. Consistent,
standards-based terminology is increasingly important as healthcare
organizations continue to increase interoperability within and
outside of the four walls of the hospital, said Mike Epplen, vice
president of product management, Quovadx. By using a regularly
updated consistent clinical terminology, errors can be reduced and
patient care improved. This enables us to continue to bring the
best technology partners together to enhance our customers
investment in our products. About 3M Health Information Systems 3M
