Long-standing Relationship Brings Cordless Phones Into Internet Age
SAN JOSE, Calif. and FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 25
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Micro Linear Corporation (NASDAQ:MLIN), a
leading digital wireless transceiver supplier and Uniden America
Corporation, a leading manufacturer of wireless consumer electronic
products, today announced that Micro Linear's ML5800 high
performance 5.8GHz wireless transceiver has been selected for use
in Uniden cordless Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) products.
Targeting the growing consumer and service provider demand for VoIP
phones and VoIP-based communications equipment in North America,
Uniden will develop and distribute a variety of VoIP products
powered by Micro Linear's high data rate (1.536Mbps) transceiver
ICs. Utilizing Micro Linear's advanced technology, Uniden's DSS
phones will be designed to avoid interference, which the companies
anticipate will result in maximum clarity and improved audio
quality. Uniden's VoIP cordless phone systems are expected to hit
retail shelves by the second quarter of calendar year 2005. "Uniden
has been using Micro Linear's transceivers for over three years, so
deciding on a vendor for our exciting, new cordless VoIP telephones
was very easy. Micro Linear has consistently exceeded our
expectations in performance, delivery and price," said Al
Silverberg, president of Uniden America. "As the leading
manufacturer of cordless phones, Uniden understands what consumers
want from their home phone experience -- affordability, reliability
and functionality -- and we intend to satisfy these needs with our
new cordless VoIP products. Uniden, with some help from Micro
Linear, will deliver high quality, feature-rich VoIP products that
enhance the user experience while offering the kind of clarity and
reliability consumers have come to expect from Uniden." Tim
Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Micro Linear
comments, "Uniden has been a valuable customer and close partner to
Micro Linear throughout the cordless phone's evolution from 900MHz,
to 2.4GHz, and now to 5.8GHz. All along, Uniden has consistently
had a clear technology vision and strong commitment to customer
satisfaction. We are pleased that Uniden has, and continues to
recognize the superior performance, quality, and value of our
digital wireless transceiver ICs and look forward to trying to
