OSHA established the VPP Star program to recognize outstanding worksites that have implemented effective and comprehensive health and safety management systems. Companies that receive a VPP Star designation have achieved injury and illness rates at or below the national average for their respective industries and have developed robust programs for controlling workplace hazards. These include hazard control, safety training, jobsite analysis, and management leadership and worker involvement.

During the presentation, Brent Witthuhn, the Joplin location’s Manager, accepted the honors on behalf of the team.

“We are truly honored to be recognized with this prestigious achievement,” said Witthuhn. “This accomplishment would not be possible without our employee-partners dedication and care for one another. Earning VPP certification requires an ongoing commitment to safety, before and after receiving this designation. We’ll continue to strive for better and improve our culture of safety.”

OSHA established VPP Star to promote effective and cooperative worksite health and safety in both private industry and government worksites.

Achieving VPP Star certification is a rigorous process. Businesses must show that both management and employees work together proactively to prevent workplace accidents. This is accomplished by implementing a comprehensive health and safety management system and maintaining injury and illness rates that are below the national averages reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for their specific industries.

This program is OSHA’s official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational health and safety. To remain in the program, participants must be re-evaluated every three to five years.

Cintas’ commitment to OSHA’s VPP Star program has set a new standard for U.S. companies. As of August 2024, 131 Cintas facilities in the United States are VPP Star certified, a total that far exceeds that of every other company.

“Earning VPP certification requires a collaborative approach with the common goal of eliminating workplace injuries,” said Stephen Jenkins, Cintas Vice President of Health & Safety, whose department oversees the company’s VPP certification process. “Our positive discontent pushes us to achieve the highest standards and has helped us to earn another VPP certification. We are incredibly proud of our employee-partners and their efforts to maintain healthy and safe worksites.”
