Enel SpA said Monday that it has been authorized to enter the Australian energy retail market.

The Rome-based energy company said it will offer up to 100% renewable energy supply, initially targeting commercial and industrial customers and expanding to residential customers.

The license was issued by the Australian Energy Regulator.

The business will be backed by Enel Green Power's renewable generation assets and Enel X's technology platforms, including its battery energy storage systems and charging solutions for electric vehicles.

Enel Green Power Australia currently has 310 megawatts of consolidated capacity, through three solar plants, the company said.
