/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CGI Group Inc. (TSX: GIB.A; NYSE: GIB)
and The Oakland (Calif.) Housing Authority (OHA) today announced a
one-year contract renewal estimated at US$8.5 million for business
process outsourcing to serve the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development (HUD) in Northern California. The award is a
renewal of a partnership between OHA and CGI that began in 2004.
Under the initial contract with OHA, CGI provided start-up,
contract administration and payment services for site-based
multi-family housing assistance payments. CGI is responsible for
more than 25 percent of the housing portfolio across the U.S.
administered under HUD's multi-family housing program. In addition
to its contract with OHA to serve Northern California, CGI
administers contracts in the states of Ohio, Florida, New York, and
in Washington D.C. Housing assistance payments processed total more
than US$1.5 billion annually, making CGI the largest HUD processor
of its kind in the U.S. "In our initial contract, we selected CGI
because of its track record in helping other housing authorities
reach their goals," said Jon Gresley, Executive Director, OHA. "We
are renewing our contract with CGI because they have demonstrated
their ability to help us effectively and efficiently serve our
mission to provide safe and decent housing." "Success requires a
strong and trusting partnership," said Marybeth Carragher,
Vice-President, Consulting Services, CGI. "We are pleased that OHA
continues to look to us to provide them with state-of-the-art
solutions and services and we appreciate the opportunity to help
them reach their goals." About Oakland Housing Authority Created in
1938, the Oakland Housing Authority, with 3,308 units of public
housing and nearly 11,000 units of Section 8, is the third largest
housing authority in the State of California. The Authority has a
long and successful record of administering leased housing and
housing subsidy programs since the inception of Section 23 programs
in 1968. The Authority collaborated with other Bay Area public
housing authorities (PHAs) to create one of the most "mobile and
portable" Section 8 programs, exchanging thousands of participants
with a large number of surrounding and distant jurisdictions, and
leading the movement to absorb clients rather than bill other PHAs.
The Authority has also pioneered in applying for and successfully
operating service enhanced programs for special needs populations.
