CGI Group, Inc. (TSX: GIB.A)(NYSE: GIB), a leading provider of
information technology and business process services, today
announced it has a seven-year, $50 million contract with University
Health Network (UHN), Toronto, Ontario. This announcement follows
yesterday's eHealth Ontario and Canada Health Infoway's
announcement of this transformational project that will see CGI
design, build and manage a shared diagnostic imaging repository
(DI-r) solution while providing support services to the system's
users.
CGI's solution will provide a secure, shared repository for
storage, retrieval and viewing of diagnostic images such as X-rays
and MRIs, and associated documents across multiple hospital sites
in greater Toronto and central Ontario (GTA West). UHN represents a
consortium of five local health information networks (LHINs) and 21
hospitals representing approximately 39 sites in the Greater
Toronto Area (GTA) and Central Ontario. Diagnostic imaging exam
volumes are expected to exceed an annual volume of three million
exams in five years. The $50 million agreement was signed last
spring, making this the largest project of its kind in Ontario.
The enhanced DI-r solution will allow access by 10,000
clinicians to images amongst the GTA West sites. The project is
funded jointly by eHealth Ontario and Canada Health Infoway.
"The GTA West project is the final step to share all Diagnostic
Imaging information amongst 148 hospitals in Ontario and reduce
wait times and lengths of stay by allowing quicker exam reports and
clinical decisions by physicians and specialists," said Greg A.
Reed, President and CEO, eHealth Ontario.
"This is a major step forward for Canada's largest health
region," said Richard Alvarez, President and CEO of Canada Health
Infoway. "GTA West will help hospitals gain efficiencies in their
Diagnostic Imaging services, and will allow doctors to diagnose
more quickly, so patients can get the care they need sooner."
"CGI competed in an RFP process and was successful in winning
the contract because of their depth of healthcare knowledge and
strong track record in large-scale IT implementations," said Lydia
Lee, Vice-President and Chief Information Officer, UHN. "CGI's
Diagnostic Imaging Repository solution will help us meet our
business goals and objectives of reducing costs, improving
efficiencies, while maintaining outstanding standards in patient
care."
"We are very pleased to partner with UHN to implement our shared
Diagnostic Imaging solution," said Hitesh Seth, Sector
Vice-President, Public and Healthcare at CGI. "As the leading
healthcare solution provider in Canada, we'll support UHN and the
GTA West consortium in improving the quality of healthcare
decision-making and enhance access to consultation services for
residents of the region served by the GTA West Hospital sites."
CGI provides a full suite of health IT solutions that reduce
operating costs, advance the quality of care, and promote health
with an emphasis on Electronic Health Record (EHR) initiatives,
health information exchange (HIE), quality initiatives and
operational efficiency improvements. As a trusted health IT
