Newisys(R) Introduces Best-in-Class Servers Supporting Dual-Core
AMD Opteron(TM) Processors AUSTIN, Texas, April 21
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Newisys(R), a Sanmina- SCI Company
(NASDAQ:SANM) and leading developer of enterprise-class server and
storage designs, today announced its Newisys 2100-E and 4300-E
Enterprise- Class Servers based on the latest AMD Opteron(TM)
processors, including new dual-core versions. These Newisys servers
integrate groundbreaking dual-core processor capability with
balanced server design to introduce a new level of performance,
flexibility and value for the enterprise. At an event commemorating
AMD's second anniversary of the AMD Opteron processor, Newisys
demonstrated its Newisys 4300-E 3U 4-way rack-mount servers running
Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors with Direct-Connect Architecture.
This technology results in a new type of processor that embeds two
processor cores on a single microprocessor, allowing for a
significant increase of bandwidth. "These innovative Newisys
Enterprise-Class Servers, combined with Dual-Core AMD Opteron
processor technology, are among the most compact and powerful
servers on the market," stated Don Johnson, Executive Vice
President, Enterprise Computing and Storage Division, Sanmina-SCI.
"The Newisys servers offer leading performance for today's 32-bit
workloads as well as address applications that were previously
available exclusively through high-priced, proprietary 64-bit RISC
servers." "Newisys is the first in our Validated Server Program to
bring Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor-based servers to the
enterprise market where heat and power consumption are of paramount
importance," said Ben Williams, Vice President, Commercial and
Server/Workstation Business, AMD. "Dual-Core AMD64 technology
enables enterprise users to increase their computing capacity
without increasing power requirements, providing the best
performance-per-watt ratio in the industry." The Newisys 2100-E
features two Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors, up to 16 gigabytes
of DDR400 memory, and superior systems-management tools for
complete OS independence and maximum availability. The Newisys
2100-E is ideal for web or application hosting, high-performance
computer clusters, offsite/remote server installations, database
workloads and corporate data centers. The Newisys 4300-E provides
the performance, availability and manageability required for
business-critical workloads. With four Dual-Core AMD Opteron
processors, the Newisys 4300-E features up to 64 gigabytes of
DDR400 memory, extensive hot-swap PCI-X expansion capability and
enterprise RAS features. The Newisys 4300-E is ideal for corporate
data centers running large databases, mission-critical enterprise
applications, data warehouses, messaging infrastructures, and
complex, compute-intensive analytical workloads for engineering,
life sciences and financial services disciplines. Newisys servers
are the first enterprise-class servers tested, certified and
available via AMD's Validated Server Program (VSP), which offers
system builders validated, stable and reliable solutions built on
AMD Opteron processor-based server platforms. The first dual-core
units will be available next month. About Newisys Newisys, a
