CHICAGO, Jan. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- FORTUNE has named
Morningstar, Inc. (NASDAQ: MORN), a leading provider of independent
investment research, to the magazine's annual "100 Best Companies
to Work For" list for the second consecutive year. Morningstar
placed 89th on this year's list after ranking 95th in
2011.
"At Morningstar, one of our core values is 'Great People,' which
centers on our commitment to attracting, retaining, and rewarding
talent, and it's a true honor for us to be included again on this
list," Joe Mansueto, chairman and
chief executive officer of Morningstar, said. "The great people we
have here at Morningstar have all worked hard to create what I
think is a special and unique culture. It's a culture that I hope
will always allow each of us the freedom to do our best work,
pursue our mission of helping investors in meaningful ways, and
have some fun along the way."
To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners
with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most
extensive employee survey in corporate America; 280 firms
participated in this year's survey. More than 246,000 employees at
those companies responded to a survey created by the institute, a
global research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries
around the world. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the
results of the institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a
random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks
questions related to their attitudes about management's
credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is
based on responses to the institute's Culture Audit, which includes
detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of
open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal
communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity
efforts. Any company that is at least five years old and has more
than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible.
In the past year, the Chicago Tribune also recognized
Morningstar for the second year in a row by naming it to its list
of "Top Workplaces 2011." Glassdoor, an online jobs and career
community where people share feedback about companies, named
Morningstar to its list of the 50 Best Places to Work based on
surveys collected on Glassdoor's website from U.S.-based employees
in 2011. Additionally, Brill Street, a technology-based firm that
helps companies build their workforce, named Morningstar Chicago's
#1 employer for Generation Y workers. Morningstar also topped this
list in 2009.
Headquartered in Chicago,
Morningstar also has U.S. offices in Austin, Texas, Horsham, Pa., New
York, and Oakland, Md.
