As the New Year quickly approaches, Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS), a leader in secure document management, today announced that submissions are open for the fifth annual Good Riddance Day Contest. This year’s contest will name two winners, one individual and one business. To enter, individual contestants must submit a picture of the item they would like to say “good riddance” to and describe why in 500 words or less. Business contestants must describe why it needs to get organized in 2012 in 500 words or less and can submit an image of a cluttered office or other changes needed to their workspace.

For this annual Times Square New Year’s tradition, Cintas will provide one of its mobile shredding trucks in Times Square for participants to watch their funny, outlandish and forgettable memories of 2011 get permanently discarded. Whether you want to shred a picture of an old flame, mortgage documents, old personnel files or a pile of medical bills, anything goes!

A panel of judges from the Cintas Document Management team and the Times Square Alliance will determine the winners. Entries can be submitted at www.cintas.com/goodriddanceday.

“We are thrilled to take part in Times Square New Year’s Eve Good Riddance Day again and are excited to encourage business participation this year,” said Dave Pollak, Chief Marketing Officer, Cintas. “The New Year provides the ideal opportunity to start fresh and this year’s contest allows businesses and individuals to say good riddance to their clutter and worries from 2011 and welcome the New Year with a fresh start.”

The individual grand prize includes:

  • Two roundtrip airfare tickets
  • Five-night stay at a Times Square Hotel
  • Designation as the official “First to Shred” at Good Riddance Day 2011
  • Two VIP passes to an exclusive pre-viewing of the Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year's Eve Ball
  • A comprehensive prize package of local area cuisine & attractions to cover meals and activity throughout the week, including tickets to the hit Broadway shows Godspell and Rock of Ages.

The business grand prize includes:

  • Free Office SmartShred™ Day with an official Cintas truck on site to shred business documents for up to 3 hours
  • Breakfast & lunch for the entire staff on the day of the shredding event (up to $3,000)
  • $1,000 gift card to an office supply store to help organize the office in 2012

Cintas is teaming with the co-organizers of New Year’s Eve in Times Square, the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, to invite the public to say goodbye, once and for all, to the bad memories of 2011. The event will take place on Dec. 28, 2011 in New York City’s Broadway Plaza between 46th and 47th Streets from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to the public to discard any unpleasant, embarrassing and downright depressing memories from 2011.

“Each year, we look forward to the extravagance and celebration surrounding New Year’s Eve in Times Square,” said Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance. “We’re excited to team up with Cintas and provide a hands-on experience for Good Riddance Day participants to bid farewell to their bad report cards, previous flames and dirty offices in 2011.”

“Our partnership with Cintas is essential to the success of Good Riddance Day,” added Jeffery Straus, President, Countdown Entertainment. “Participants can start 2012 with a sense of renewal knowing their bad memories of the past year have been safely destroyed by Cintas’ secure shredding.”

All contest entries will be destroyed at Good Riddance Day to give all participants a fresh start. A Cintas document management truck will be on-site during the event to ensure all items are securely destroyed and recycled.

Submissions must be received by 5 p.m. EST on Friday, December 2, 2011.
