Cintas Corporation today announced that its eco-friendly
clothing concepts were awarded Apparel magazine’s second annual
Sustainability All-Star Award at the Apparel Tech Conference West
in Irvine, Calif. To qualify for the award, applicants had to show
a commitment to making their businesses more sustainable along with
their plan for evolving that commitment.
“Innovation is a key ingredient behind the success of most
eco-friendly products and services, and Cintas continues to be the
leader of conservation in the apparel service industry,” said Bill
Goetz, Cintas’ president and chief operating officer of global
accounts and strategic markets. “Cintas takes pride in conducting
business in a way that minimizes resources and materials. We do our
part to leave a better world for our children and future
generations.”
As part of Cintas’ business-wide green initiative, the company
developed eco-friendly apparel collections that offer style,
comfort, functionality and environmental sustainability. This
clothing caters to any business seeking a professional image, while
making the environment a top priority and demonstrating corporate
responsibility.
Cintas’ green apparel collections are made from post-consumer
waste, keeping as many as 25 plastic bottles out of landfills per
suit. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, apparel
made from recycled materials uses 66 percent less energy compared
to the manufacturing of polyester fiber. This process also reduces
water usage by 90 percent and helps eliminate harmful air
emissions.
The flexible, durable and eco-friendly fabric is also machine
washable, which reduces the use of toxins and harsh chemicals used
in the dry cleaning process. Plus, since the collection does not
require professional cleaning, employees benefit from lower
laundering costs. These savings could reach $1,000 per employee
annually. The life expectancy of the green garments is the same as
other collections, provided laundering instructions are
followed.
By choosing one of the five eco-friendly apparel lines from
Cintas, companies can go green without sacrificing image or
quality. While some businesses have dismissed eco-friendly programs
as too costly, Cintas’ eco-apparel lines have similar pricing
structures to its traditional apparel lines.
Apparel's award program was developed in response to the growing
awareness throughout the apparel industry for the need to implement
practices that will build more sustainable supply chains, resulting
in safer products, a cleaner Earth, a healthier populace, less
waste, more productivity and bigger profits.
