American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded
water and wastewater utility company, announced today that it has
been named in the top 100 Best for Vets Employers by Military
Times. The selection focused on corporate culture and policies that
best leverage the traits and skills embodied by veterans and
servicemen and women to enable them to be successful in civilian
roles.
“We are so proud of this recognition by Military Times as a Best
for Vets Employer, which reflects our commitment to actively
recruit and support both military veterans and the men and women of
our workforce who continue to serve today,” said American Water
President and CEO Susan Story. “Providing water, fire protection
and sanitation services to 15 million people in the U.S. is mission
critical, and veterans and servicemen and women offer the
expertise, safety focus and leadership qualities that help us get
the job done.”
Now in its ninth year, the rankings evaluate companies’ culture,
veteran recruiting, veteran policies, and accommodations for
members of the National Guard and reserves. The standards are
objective, rigorous, and editorially independent. As a result,
transitioning service members utilize the list of Best for Vets
Employers to aid their transition to civilian life.
American Water is committed to hiring military talent, knowing
first-hand that recruiting veterans and military spouses is not
only the “right thing to do,” but the right thing for business.
“The companies on the Military Times Best for Vets list earned
their rankings through determined efforts to recruit and support
service members, veterans and military families,” said George
Altman, the Military Times editor in charge of the rankings. “These
efforts deserve recognition from the country and should get the
attention of veterans looking for a new career.”
The final rankings were the result of a nearly 100-question
survey, followed by tests to ensure the accuracy of responses and a
careful evaluation of survey data.
