MONTREAL, Oct. 2, 2017 /CNW/ - As part of its ongoing
commitment to rail safety, CN (TSX: CNR) (NYSE:CNI) is encouraging
parents and teachers to get involved in raising awareness with
school-aged children about the importance of rail safety. This
fall, CN police officers will be giving presentations in schools
and community organizations, educating kids and parents about rail
safety.
"Just as you would talk to your kids about crossing the street
at the corner and waiting for a green light, we are inviting adults
to take time this school year to talk to young people about being
safe around railway tracks," said Stephen
Covey, chief of police and chief security officer at CN.
"Good habits start early and a short conversation can prevent a
life from being cut short."
For information about how to talk to your children or their
class about rail safety, please contact CN's Public
Inquiry Line by calling 1-888-888-5909. A team member will
provide you advice and educational material. CN Police community
service officers are available to give presentations to school
groups or at community events.
"Rail Safety is a shared responsibility and by working with
parents and teachers, we can help keep our children safe and avoid
preventable tragedies," Covey said.
Five important rail safety tips for children:
- Only cross train tracks at a designated crossing;
- Don't wear headphones and be aware of your surroundings near
tracks;
- Look both ways before crossing;
- Respect all traffic signs including gates and lights;
- Trains are going faster than you think and can't stop
quickly.
