March 28 2011 - 6:00PM
Business Wire
CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (NYSE: CX), announced today that it has
been named the primary cement supplier for the first phase of
Reventazón hydroelectric plant project in Costa Rica. The US$ 1.2
billion plant will be the largest of its kind in Central America
when the 311 megawatt facility reaches completion in 2016. As the
primary supplier, CEMEX will provide 50,000 tons of cement for the
first phase of this project.
The Costa Rican Institute of Electricity, which is in charge of
the plant’s construction, had several specific requirements for the
cement used in the hydroelectric plant. As such, CEMEX is providing
cement that has a low heat hydration, high workability, and
improved durability, in order to meet these requirements.
“We are honored to have been selected as the supplier for this
significant renewable energy project, not only because of its scale
and importance to the country of Costa Rica, but also because it
represents an important opportunity to provide our customers with a
unique solution with our special cement products.” says Carlos
González, CEMEX Costa Rica President.
CEMEX is one of the largest building materials companies in
Central America with a cement production capacity of 3.3 million

applied with a spackling machine that reduces waste and increases
productivity.
