           THREE NEW DIRECTORS JOIN THE THISTLE BOARD

Thistle  Hotels plc has today appointed Tan Sri Quek  Leng  Chan
and Mr Rupert Morley as non-executive directors.  They have been
nominated by Brierley Investments Limited of New Zealand,  which
has  a  46% shareholding in Thistle Hotels, to replace  its  two
existing  nominees as non-executive directors, Mr  Rodney  Price
and  Mr  Paul  Collins,  following their  resignation  from  the
Brierley board.

Tan  Sri  Quek Leng Chan is Chairman of the Hong Leong Group  in
Malaysia  and  of  Camerlin  Limited,  a  major  shareholder  in
Brierley  Investments Limited of which Tan Sri Quek  is  a  non-
executive director.  Mr Rupert Morley is the Operations Director
of Brierley's London office.

Thistle  Hotels has today also appointed Mr Andrew Bould,  Chief
Operating  Officer, to the board.  Mr Bould  joined  Thistle  in
July  1998, having previously been Managing Director  of  Queens
Moat House UK Operations.

The board has decided to seek an outside, non-executive Chairman
to  replace  Mr  Price.  An announcement will  be  made  in  due
course.   In  the  meantime,  Mr Charles  Mackay,  non-executive
Deputy Chairman, will act as Chairman.

Thistle Hotels' Trading Update of 26 January announced that like
for like room yields grew by 5.6% in 1998, with a slight drop in
occupancy  from  72.3%  to 71.9% more  than  offset  by  a  6.1%
increase  in  average room rates from #64.88 to  #68.87.   These
results  were  in  line  with  market  expectations.   Thistle's
preliminary full year results will be announced on 3 March.
