Triple Play Services Driving Adoption of Carrier Grade Ethernet in
Europe Riverstone's Keynote Address at Lightspeed Metro Ethernet
Conference Explores the Issues and Opportunities Associated with
Next Generation Services Over Ethernet MILAN, Italy, Nov. 10
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a keynote address given today at the
Lightspeed Metro Ethernet Conference, David Ginsburg, Vice
President of Marketing and Product Management, Riverstone Networks
Inc. (Pink Sheets: RSTN.PK), stated that the growing popularity of
next generation business and residential services such as
video-on-demand and distance learning is accelerating European
service providers' adoption of MPLS-based Ethernet technology.
Speaking before executives from Italy's leading service providers,
Ginsburg said, "Using MPLS, today's carrier-grade Ethernet
technology provides the basis for the coveted triple play by
enabling service providers to cost-effectively deliver voice, video
and data services with the high Quality of Service their customers
expect." He went on to assert that the use of MPLS and VPLS over
Ethernet is the only solution offering the necessary scalability,
reliability, and cost-effectiveness for triple-play services and
cited manageability and creation of new services like
video-on-demand as examples of Ethernet's effectiveness. Ginsburg's
speech, "Deploying the Triple Play," also described how Ethernet
has transitioned from a technology confined to the business campus
or metro business services to a technology providing the
infrastructure for the next generation of carrier consumer
services. "Ethernet has grown up," he said. Accordingly, he expects
carrier investment in Ethernet infrastructure over the next decade
to equal or exceed that which occurred as part of the ATM and Frame
Relay buildouts of the 1990s. Ginsburg, author of several books on
data networking, will travel with the LightSpeed Metro Ethernet
Conference as it makes it way to Frankfurt, Brussels and Paris. The
conference provides an opportunity for senior decision makers from
Western Europe's leading local and regional carriers, service
providers and enterprise organizations to learn about today's
networking issues free of charge, from the world's best
authorities. Riverstone Networks, Inc. is a leading provider of
