          Substantial Shareholding Notification

The Company announces that it has been given notice on 6 December  1999 that
in accordance with the provisions of section  198 of the Company Act 1985,
Norwich Union plc had  an interest of 9,050,000 ordinary shares of 1p each
in  the Company, representing approximately 3.60% of the issued ordinary share
capital of the Company, following its purchase of 6,818,361 shares on 2
December 1999.
