Business Wire
Newport Networks (LSE:NNG), the developer of carrier-class 1460
Session Border Controllers, has today announced the launch of
IMS/TISPAN-ready distributed signalling proxy and media proxy
functionality. Large fixed and mobile operators are demanding
converged networks based on IMS and TISPAN network architectures
that can scale to accommodate rapid growth in Voice-over-IP (VOIP)
services. Where existing session border controllers cannot support
these architectures without obsolescence or expensive upgrades, the
Newport Networks' 1460 offers industry-leading capacity and
architectural flexibility. With IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem)
becoming increasingly important in strategic network investment,
Newport Networks' 1460 provides operators with the flexibility
required in deploying distributed session border control. Newport
has physically separated its SignallingProxy(TM) and MediaProxy(TM)
allowing MediaProxies to be controlled from 3rd party Softswitches
and SignallingProxies to be deployed standalone as 'SIP signalling
firewalls'. This expanded flexibility enables service providers to
deploy the Newport Networks 1460 either as a standard session
border controller or as a separated Signalling Proxy and Media
Proxy that can both evolve to IMS and TISPAN architectures without
major upgrades. "IMS-readiness rounds out a Session Border Control
solution needed to help Tier 1 and 2 service providers optimize
network investment while growing their subscriber base and
geographic reach," says Joe McGarvey, a Senior Analyst at Current
Analysis. "The Newport Networks 1460's conformance with the IMS
specification and its distributed architecture, where signalling
and media processing is separate, provides carriers with a flexible
and future-proof security and session control platform." John
Everard, CEO of Newport Networks stated, "From an early stage
Newport Networks anticipated that to future proof the 1460 the
Company would have to build a separated signalling and media proxy
into the architecture. This approach positions Newport Networks as
the best solution to safely migrate carriers to IMS/TISPAN."
Newport Networks SignallingProxy (TM) and MediaProxy (TM) products
are available now and will be on show on Newport Networks' stand
426 at Fall VON in Boston. About Newport Networks Newport Networks
Group PLC, listed on the Alternative Investment Market of the
London Stock Exchange in May 2004, has designed and developed the
1460 Session Border Controller to solve existing commercial and
technical problems in the provision of Voice over IP (VoIP) and
Multimedia over IP (MoIP) services. The 1460 Session Border
Controller addresses the key service delivery issues of quality and
security, enabling service providers to create new revenue streams
from VoIP and MoIP while controlling the cost of delivery. Based in
the UK and North America, Newport Networks has an experienced team
headed by Chairman Terry Matthews and CEO John Everard. The team
has a proven track record of identifying new service provider
network technologies, developing products and managing the growth
of international businesses. Further information at
