Survivors to Form a Human Symbol of Hope on Field before Browns v.
Broncos Game CLEVELAND, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- To
highlight the importance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness
Month, the Cleveland Browns and National City will honor 50 local
breast cancer survivors in a ceremony preceding the Oct. 22 game
versus the Denver Broncos. (Logo:

survivors, nominated by their friends and family, will participate
with their nominators in a pre-game ceremony honoring the strength
and courage of all breast cancer survivors. Together they will
unfurl pink ribbon and carry banners symbolizing hope for all who
have been touched by the disease, and creating a poignant memorial
for those who have lost the battle to breast cancer. The survivors
will take the field at approximately 3:40 p.m. The Cleveland Browns
and National City are strong supporters of breast cancer awareness,
and in October, both organizations lend significant support to the
cause. They have joined forces for the second year to present a
spectacular pre-game ceremony, part of National City's ongoing
"Real Men Wear Pink" campaign. The campaign, a component of the
company's overall breast cancer awareness initiatives, features
Browns' head coach Romeo Crennel as the local spokesperson and
demonstrates the deep impact breast cancer has on men as well as
women. In 2005, the Browns launched the sale of charitable Browns
Breast Cancer Pink Hats. The hats, which are available online at
http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/ and at the Browns Team Shop, cost
$15 with a $5 contribution from each sale supporting the National
Breast Cancer Foundation and Cleveland Clinic Breast Center.
National City also is an active supporter of the National Breast
Cancer Foundation. Through the sale of National City Diamond
Edition checking and credit card products, a portion of each
transaction goes to the Foundation, with special incentive
contributions during the month of October. Since inception, the
Diamond Edition products have enabled National City and its
customers to donate more than $1.7 million to the Foundation. The
mission of the National Breast Cancer Foundation is to save lives
by raising awareness of breast cancer through education and
providing mammograms for those in need. Many of the funds raised
through the Diamond Edition products are distributed to local
hospitals working to prevent and eradicate breast cancer. During
the Oct. 22 pre-game events, National City will donate, in
conjunction with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, $100,000 to
The Cleveland Clinic Foundation to support breast cancer treatment
and research. "Given that one in every eight women is diagnosed
with breast cancer, this disease has a profound affect on our
communities," said Crennel. "The survivors we're honoring are a
small handful of those who command our respect and admiration."
"National City is excited to once again team up with the Browns to
honor the courage of local breast cancer survivors," said Peter E.
Raskind, vice chairman of National City Corporation. "We have all
been touched by this disease in some way, and our support of
initiatives to raise awareness and fight breast cancer is a
reflection of the passion our employees have for this cause."
