Lonrho Plc ("Lonrho" or "the Company") (AIM: LONR) today announces that it has
recruited a senior executive, Peter Albeck, as General Manager of Lonrho's Port
and Shipping Division.

Peter Albeck joins the Company from Safmarine, where he was Chief Commercial

Lonrho oil services port, Luba Freeport, in Equatorial Guinea. Peter's role will
be to expand Lonrho's current operations and to deliver new opportunities as
appropriate to the Lonrho Board.

SAILS (SA Liners) is a South Africa based container shipping line, with an
operating fleet of 6 vessels. The main container service is to exporters and
importers on the Europe, West African and South African trade routes.

experience and knowledge will be of great assistance in delivering growth in our
existing operations and in evaluating several exciting new opportunities that
the Board is considering.

entrepreneurial appetite to develop new businesses will be of great benefit to
Lonrho's growing Port and Shipping Division. Lonrho has identified the shipping
and ports industry, with its considerable opportunities for growth, as a key
