GX Networks. worth its Waitrose in gold
ITG (AIM: ITH LN), through its subsidiaries, GX Networks and
Global Internet, is the UK's largest independent Internet Service
Provider ('ISP'). ITG announced the launch of an innovative free
Internet service with Waitrose, one of the UK's leading
supermarket groups.
Waitrose, the food division of the John Lewis partnership, today
announced the launch of its new Waitrose.com service, using access
and hosting technologies from backbone provider, GX Networks, a
subsidiary of ITG.
Waitrose.com offers customers 'free Internet access with a
difference', with the net revenue from phone calls made by
subscribers being donated to four chosen UK charities. Customers
will be able to log on for the cost of a local call, accessing the
most up to date and comprehensive food and wine information on the
web, as well as financial news, weather information and travel
updates. Through the Waitrose Direct service, customers will be
able to buy wines, flowers and gifts via Waitrose.com, as well as
use the new Waitrose Organics Direct service, a 'green box'
delivery of seasonably available fruit and vegetables.
Waitrose Marketing Director, Mark Price, explains:
'Our customers would expect Waitrose to take a fresh approach to
the Internet by offering authoritative content, excellent service
and technical capability. 'We chose to develop our Internet
service using GX Networks because we wanted an ISP with the same
values as ours - a commitment to end users and a strong focus on
quality of service'.
Maria Cappella, General Manager for GX Networks, said:
'We take pride in our highly resilient UK network and secure data
centres, which allow GX Networks to meet the most stringent
requirements of e-business. This has already been endorsed by a
number of our business partners, such as Datacash, a payment
gateway company for whom we run stronghold servers and NetInvest,
another e-commerce specialist. We are therefore delighted that
Waitrose has chosen GX Networks to launch the John Lewis
Partnership's first venture into e-commerce, confident that our
service reflects their high levels of quality and reliability.'
Laurence Blackall, Chief Executive of ITG, added:
'The product we have developed with Waitrose is yet further
evidence of our ability to originate innovative branded Internet
services for some of the UK's leading companies. Following the
hugely successful launch of freenetname last week, Waitrose.com is
another truly unique Internet product, tailor-made to the
requirements of our client and utilising the vast wholesale
capacity of our infrastructure.'
Waitrose.com is specifically aimed at the upper end of the market.
Reflecting the profiles and lifestyles of John Lewis and Waitrose
customers, the site's content and style are broad-sheet as opposed
to tabloid, with news information, for example, being sourced from
The Guardian.
