GOOCH AND HOUSEGO PLC

The  board  of  Gooch  and Housego plc has  noted  the  recent
decline in the share price of the company and is not aware  of
any  information relating to the Groups trading or  financial
position which would account for this.

Since the interim statement issued on 14 June 1999 trading has
been  satisfactory. The board anticipates that  the  financial
results for the year ending 30 September 1999 will be in  line
with market expectations.

Steps are being taken to identify a suitable candidate for the
role  of  group chief executive. In the meantime the  managing
director, Gareth Jones remains with the company.
