Shareholders expressed their reluctance to re-elect Ireena
Vittal to the board of Compass Group PLC (CPG.LN) at the company's
annual general meeting held on Thursday.
The contract-food-service company announced the results of the
meeting on Friday. While all resolutions were passed, Ms. Vittal
had 22.4% of votes cast against her reassuming her position as
nonexecutive director.
The company commented on the vote saying that it stood behind
her.
"Over the last 12 months Ms. Vittal has reduced the number of
nonexecutive roles held and the board believes that she continues
to discharge her role at Compass Group PLC effectively," it
said.
Compass Group said it will engage with shareholders and discuss
any concerns about her presence on too many company boards.
According to the company website, Ms. Vittal currently sits on the
board of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd., WIPRO Ltd., The Indian
Hotels Company Ltd., Titan Company Ltd. and Cipla Ltd.
