Barrick Issues Responsibility Report

TORONTO, ONTARIO--

Barrick Gold Corporation today released a Responsibility Report documenting its policies and performance for
environmental, health, safety and social responsibility at its operations and joint ventures worldwide. The report
provides an open and accurate reporting on the Company's activities in these areas, based on meaningful metrics that
will serve as a base to build on in future years.

"Our established track record of mining responsibly is one of our best assets," said Greg Wilkins, President and Chief
Executive Officer. "Wherever we operate, our stakeholders - from governments and communities, to employees and
investors - justifiably expect us to behave ethically and create lasting social and economic benefits. We agree.
Profitability and responsibility go hand in hand."

The 40-page report will be presented and discussed at Barrick's annual Environmental Conference in Huaraz, Peru (Sept.
8-11), which will be attended by environmental personnel from Barrick sites. The report sets out Barrick's
responsibility vision and identifies achievements and opportunities for improvement in the spheres of Environmental,
Health, Safety and Social (EHSS) responsibility. The Company believes that by mining responsibly, and sharing the
benefits with host communities and countries, it is contributing to sustainable development.

The Responsibility Report can be viewed in English or Spanish at the Company's website: www.barrick.com.

Barrick is one of the world's leading gold producers, with operations and development projects on four continents, one
