ST. LOUIS, JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. and CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 9
/PRNewswire/ -- AmerenUE announced today the company is conducting
three workshops -- one each in St. Louis, Jefferson City and Cape
Girardeau -- to hear what customers think of more than a dozen
proposed energy conservation and energy management programs. In
July 2007, AmerenUE committed to spend a minimum of $13 million per
year on energy efficiency and demand-response initiatives beginning
in 2008, increasing to a minimum of $20 million by 2010. The
workshops are set for Monday, Oct. 15 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Forest
Park Visitors Center, 5595 Grand Drive, St. Louis, MO 63112;
Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Osage Community Center,
1625 N. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701; and Thursday, Oct.
18 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 1201
Fairgrounds Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109. The workshops are
informal; customers are invited to stop by anytime during the
workshop hours. For a description of the proposed programs, go to
http://www.ameren.com/. AmerenUE and stakeholders from a range of
organizations have developed this suite of proposed programs to
help residential and business customers increase their energy
efficiency, reduce electric operating costs and improve their
bottom lines. In Missouri, AmerenUE's planning efforts follow an
integrated resource planning (IRP) policy model. Through this IRP
process, regulators establish rules for the development of energy
efficiency, demand-response, additional generation and other
initiatives. These energy management and energy conservation
proposals are part of IRP, which is aimed at using cost-effective
energy efficiency and renewable resources to reduce demand for
electricity before adding new generating resources. "We expect
these programs to help customers save money, while reducing the
peak demand for electricity and allowing us to defer the need to
build new generation in the near future," says AmerenUE President
and Chief Executive Officer Thomas R. Voss. He adds that the
utility has sponsored a number of programs from supporting
volunteer efforts to weatherizing homes to funding increased use of
energy efficient appliances and lighting. "However, the programs
customers will explore at these workshops were developed to respond
to an even greater range of customer needs." These programs are
aimed at helping low-income individuals and families, tenants,
building owners, contractors, developers, manufacturers, and
ordinary citizens who want to weatherize their homes, improve air
conditioning and heating systems or build highly energy efficient
homes. AmerenUE is a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Ameren
Corporation. Ameren companies serve 2.4 million electric customers
and nearly one million natural gas customers in a
64,000-square-mile area of Missouri and Illinois. DATASOURCE:
