Business Wire
Vu1 Corporation (OTCBB: VUOC) has assembled a U.S.-based
research, development and project management team to oversee the
manufacture and ongoing development of the company’s much
anticipated Electron Stimulated Luminescence (ESL) light bulbs.
The new team will soon travel to the Huayi manufacturing
facility in China to determine a near-term delivery date for
shipment of Vu1’s R30 to its channel partners. The team also will
be working on the development of Vu1’s forthcoming R40 and A19
bulbs.
The team that will work to ensure a successful launch of Vu1’s
bulbs includes:
- Dr. Charles Hunt is a Vu1 board member
and professor at University of California-Davis who will work with
Vu1 Chairman, President and CEO William Smith to manage the project
team. Hunt, an expert on vacuum electronics, phosphor technology
and colorimetry, and cathode engineering, has more than two decades
of experience in researching emerging technologies.
- Stanley Chao is Vu1’s new Vice
President, Asia Pacific, Product and Quality Manager. Chao has
lived and worked in the Far East for more than 15 years, including
a role as president of Kingston Technology KK in Japan. Chao also
has held a variety of management roles at Merrill Lynch in Hong
Kong and Philips Electronics in China and Singapore.
- Cameron McLeod will oversee Vu1’s UL
certification processes as well as electronics engineering,
including the multiplier, which is a critical component inside each
bulb. McLeod has had responsibility for the latest version of the
electronics found in the final configuration of the R30 currently
being produced. McLeod has more than 15 years experience in
high-voltage circuit design for vacuum tube applications. His
resume includes the manufacture of custom recording equipment for
many music industry professionals, including Chick Corea and the
Jimmy Buffett band.
- Bob Donofrio is a global phosphor
expert who will oversee processes and efficiencies related to the
coating of the surface of each bulb. Donofrio is the president of
Display Device Consultants in Ann Arbor, MI; and brings with him
more than 40 years of experience in display device technology,
particularly as it relates to the underlying ESL process.
“These appointments are further affirmation of our commitment to
getting the Vu1 ESL technology to the lighting market as soon as
possible,” said Vu1 Chairman, President and CEO William Smith. “We
are on track with the production of our flagship R30, as well as
additional models, and this is the team that will get us across the
finish line.”
Vu1’s Electron Stimulated Luminescence™ technology provides a
warm and pleasing light quality that consumers are looking for, in
an affordable, energy-efficient package without the high
price-point of LED bulbs or the hazards of CFL bulbs containing
mercury.
The ESL R30 reflector bulbs are expected to be priced at $14.98
when they go on sale at retail outlets. The bulbs are a direct
replacement for the incandescent flood bulbs commonly found in
recessed lighting fixtures throughout U.S. households and
businesses. Virtually indistinguishable from the traditional
incandescent lamp it replaces, the ESL will last up to 11,000 hours
while generating 65 watts of equivalent light from just 19.5 watts
of electricity.
