TigerDirect to Use Protocall Technologies' SoftwareToGo(R) for
Software Fulfillment COMMACK, N.Y., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/
-- Protocall Technologies Inc. (OTC:PCLI) (BULLETIN BOARD: PCLI)
announced today that TigerDirect, Inc., a subsidiary of Systemax
Inc. (NYSE:SYX), has signed an agreement to begin using Protocall's
SoftwareToGo(R) electronic software delivery system to fulfill
online software orders from http://www.tigerdirect.com/ and to
produce software inventory for TigerDirect's retail outlets.
SoftwareToGo will be integrated into TigerDirect's order
fulfillment system beginning in the third quarter of 2004.
TigerDirect is reported by HitWise as a Top 5 online computer and
computer products retailer and serves as a direct supplier for over
2 million computer users in North America. The company is a
subsidiary of Systemax Inc., a leading direct marketer and
manufacturer of PC hardware, related computer products and
industrial products, ranked as a Fortune 1000 company.
TigerDirect.com is the first web retailer to utilize SoftwareToGo
to facilitate online order fulfillment. This will allow Tiger to
offer its customers a vastly expanded selection of software titles
and same day fulfillment for their software orders. The
SoftwareToGo system will also be deployed at TigerDirect's retail
outlets -- starting with its store at the Mall of Americas in
Miami. SoftwareToGo will provide TigerDirect with real-time
on-demand software production capability as well as a dramatically
expanded library of software titles that TigerDirect can offer to
its online customers. Over 1200 titles from more than 250 software
publishers, including 6 of the top 10, are currently available in
the system. Additional licenses will be added to accommodate
TigerDirect's order flow, which is among the most active in the
industry. "Being able to have 'virtual inventory' is a great
advantage," said Gilbert Fiorentino, CEO of TigerDirect. "No stock
is required with the SoftwareToGo system. We can offer over a
thousand selections, always in stock, and don't have to take up
warehouse space, purchasing time placing orders, or other company
assets to maintain inventory. It's a revolutionary new way to
service our customers." From the TigerDirect web site, orders will
be transmitted electronically to the SoftwareToGo production units,
which will then produce the software CD and packaging insert for
mailing to the customer with the rest of the order. Each title will
provide a CD-based manual and other user materials, and the CD case
will also have a license ID for use in registration of the
software. Longer term, TigerDirect plans to install a SoftwareToGo
self-automated unit in each of its retail store locations. In
retail, customers will be able to browse all available titles
interactively and order software from a convenience kiosk and
pickup at the checkout counter. "In retail, we will be able to
offer in excess of 1000 titles in 4-square feet of selling space.
Traditionally, boxed software sales would require 16-32 feet of
shelf space to offer only a fraction of the titles we will now be
able to make available to our shoppers. This is a great space-saver
and provides more options to the consumer," Fiorentino said.
"TigerDirect is known as one of the top computer retailers in North
America. SoftwareToGo will effectively streamline and simplify the
company's entire software inventory management and order
fulfillment system in a way that will become the envy of the
software retailing industry," said Bruce Newman, president of
Protocall Technologies and innovator of SoftwareToGo. About
