Daimler AG (DAI.XE) said Friday that its trucks and buses
business aims to make only carbon-neutral vehicles in Europe, Japan
and the Nafta region by 2039.
The German premium auto maker said it will include battery
electric models in its vehicle portfolio in the main sales regions
of Europe, the U.S. and Japan by 2022. It will then extend its
range to include hydrogen-powered vehicles over the next decade,
Daimler said.
The announcement is part of Daimler's plan to cut emissions
across all its businesses and only have green transport on the road
by 2050. In May, the company said its Mercedes-Benz passenger-car
brand aims for fully electric and hybrid vehicles to account for
half of its sales by 2030.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz cars division aims to make all its
production plants in Europe carbon neutral by 2022.
