Biloxi Marsh Lands Corporation (PINK SHEETS: BLMC):
What Happened
The Transocean’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion and
fire on April 20, 2010, and resulting BP Oil Spill have caused
environmental concerns across the entire Gulf Coast. Biloxi Marsh
Lands Corporation owns 90,000 acres of marshlands in St Bernard
Parish, LA, that are in the area of concern for the spill and could
potentially be impacted. As the spill became apparent, BLMC’s
personnel immediately commenced patrolling operations to monitor
for spill impacts to our property. BLMC continues to work with BP,
State and local officials at the staging area in Hopedale, LA along
with the Unified Command Center in Houma, LA.
Current Status
The spill is beginning to impact parts of Louisiana coastline.
We continue to monitor the outer marshes of St. Bernard Parish for
any signs of oil. After taking core soil samples at various
locations along BLMC’s property to establish a baseline data set in
the event of oil encroachment, tests are underway on these baseline
samples. Currently containment booms are deployed along most
seaward inlets and some parts of BLMC property with additional
booms being deployed throughout the area. To date, BLMC has not
suffered the impact of oil on the property, but a small amount of
oil has come in contact with Lake Eugenie Land & Development,
Inc (LKEU) property. The property has been surveyed by company
personnel and assessed by Unified Command’s Shoreline Cleanup
Assessment Team (SCAT). Hard Boom, Sorbent booms and pads are being
deployed by BP personnel to try and mitigate the damage, if
possible.
BLMC’s Lessee’s and B&L Exploration’s oil and gas operations
in St. Bernard Parish are not being affected by the spill at this
time.
Planned Actions
BLMC’s personnel will continue to monitor the property and
assist the proper authorities as requested. Impacts, if any, will
be documented and accounted to protect BLMC as a landowner in the
vicinity of the spill.
