With the market for mobile applications forecasted to reach $38 billion by 2015, On the Move Systems Corp. (OTCQB: OMVS) announced plans today to capture a slice of the fast-growing industry by pursuing new development opportunities in downloadable software for smartphones and tablet computers.

“With the mass adoption of tablets and smartphones spreading around the globe faster than anyone anticipated, the incredible growth of these breakthrough platforms is fueling the demand for innovative new mobile applications—and vice versa,” said OMVS CEO Patrick Brown. “OMVS is committed to becoming a world leader in the mobile apps industry, and we’re currently in talks to sign new development agreements that will put our company in a strong position to capitalize on this unstoppable new market emerging before our eyes.”

In the “Angry Birds Era,” mobile apps are becoming big business. Since the Apple iPhone’s release in 2007, 350,000 applications have been made available for download on Apple’s iOS platform alone. Last year, the total global mobile applications market was worth around $6.8 billion. Analysts predict a compound annual growth rate of 28 percent for the market over the next four years, thanks in large part to the introduction of powerful new wireless networks.

“The unprecedented growth in the mobile app segment is being driven by falling mobile data usage costs, the adoption of new platforms such as tablets and continuous improvements in application usability,” Brown said. “In the U.S., mobile users are already spending more time per day using mobile applications than surfing the Web. Apps devoted to games, media and social networking are providing a new, engaging mobile experience that is creating a hunger for more.

“OMVS plans to announce new agreements very soon that will allow us to begin building market share in this wide-open sector,” he added.

OMVS created a new division to develop cutting-edge technology innovations in wireless tablets, smartphones and mobile applications last week. Currently, the company is negotiating a new partnership with the electronics developer Noitavonne, makers of the Loop Tablet computer.
