Falling module prices are causing a boom in solar development, and On the Move Systems Corp. (OTCQB: OMVS) is working to accelerate the process.

Decreases in the cost of new solar panels have led to a surge in commercial-scale solar development throughout the U.S. Market research firm SolarBuzz reported last week that the nation’s non-residential solar project pipeline increased from 17,000 megawatts to 24,000 megawatts in just two months, largely due to solar module price drops over the summer. According to recent analysis by GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries of America (SEIA), the average total installed cost of solar systems in the U.S. fell 20 percent last year, thanks in large part to reductions in solar module and hardware costs.

Costs will drop further and the boom will continue onward if OMVS has its way. Last week, the company announced a new agreement with Texas Southern University (TSU) to co-develop the next-generation solar panel using reliable, affordable inkjet printer technology.

“The impressive reductions in cost associated with solar panels over the last year are hardly accidental,” said OMVS CEO Patrick Brown. “New innovations in technological efficiency have played a major role in making solar power affordable on a commercial scale, and the market is responding in a big way.

“The best part is, we’ve only just scratched the surface of the technology’s potential,” he added.

OMVS and TSU are working to develop new, low-cost solar modules that utilize revolutionary “inks” containing conductive elements that can be sprayed or printed on to a variety of surfaces to create solar cells. These paper-thin modules could potentially be scaled to fit any project, from rooftops to billboards to clothing.

“Rapidly increasing demand for practical, affordable solar power solutions has helped make the solar industry one of the fastest-growing in America despite the trying economic times,” Brown said. “We believe we’re on the verge of a new breakthrough technology that will push solar past the tipping point into the mainstream of the energy sector. Big, bulky and expensive silicon solar panels will soon be a relic of the past, and the market is already primed and ready.”
