Manicouagan Minerals Announces Final Drill Results From The Dorothy-Dobie Lake Property
January 19 2010 - 8:00AM
Marketwired
Manicouagan Minerals Inc. (TSX VENTURE: MAM) is pleased to report
final assay results from the recently completed diamond drill
program on the Dorothy-Dobie Lake Property located in the Pickle
Lake area, in northwest Ontario.
Manicouagan recently completed a sixteen hole (2,292 metre)
diamond drilling program on the Dorothy-Dobie Lake Property. Seven
holes (DOR-09-01 to 07) were drilled on the Dorothy Main Zone while
nine holes (DOB-09-08 to 16) tested the Dobie Zone (see MAM Press
Release dated November 18, 2009). Initial assays included 1.8
metres grading 5.15 gpt gold (DOR-09-05) from the Dorothy Main Zone
and 2.7 metres grading 5.65 gpt gold (DOB-09-10) from the Dobie
Zone (see MAM press release dated January 6, 2010). Tables setting
out the significant assay results from the drill program as well as
longitudinal sections for the Dorothy Main and Dobie Zones are
attached and are also available for review at
www.manicouaganminerals.com.
The 2009 drill program was successful in identifying a potential
bulk tonnage gold exploration target at the Dobie Zone. Diamond
drill holes DOB-10, 11, 13 and 14 encountered broad zones of gold
mineralization. Hole DOB-09-10 assayed 20.0 metres grading 1.52 gpt
gold including 2.7 metres grading 5.65 gpt gold. Hole DOB-09-11
drilled 50 metres down dip of hole DOB-09-10, assayed 31.5 metres
grading 1.39 gpt gold including 1.5 metres grading 6.48 gpt gold.
Approximately 100 metres to the northwest, hole DOB-09-13 returned
33.2 metres grading 1.04 gpt gold including 1.0 metre grading 6.27
gpt gold and 2.0 metres grading 4.34 gpt gold. Hole DOB-09-14
intersected the mineralized zone 25 metres down dip of hole
DOB-09-13 and returned 27.9 metres averaging 1.53 gpt gold
including 2.0 metres grading 5.64 gpt gold.
The Dobie Zone is characterized by a strong alteration
(carbonate-silica) package hosted within mafic volcanics. The zone
of gold bearing mineralization has now been traced by Manicouagan
for approximately 180 metres along strike and to a depth of 100
metres. It remains open at depth and to the northwest.
The Dorothy-Dobie Lake Property consists of a contiguous block
of 19 staked claims totalling 31.72 square kilometres. The property
ties onto the western boundary of the historical Golden Patricia
Mine property (which produced 0.50 million ounces at 19.9 gpt gold)
and extends for approximately 12 kilometres to the northwest
covering the projected strike extension of the favourable gold
bearing structure - the Golden Patricia Mine Trend.
Manicouagan can earn up to a 70 percent interest in the
Dorothy-Dobie Lake, Kasagiminnis and Pickle Lake East properties
pursuant to an option agreement with Trillium North. (See MAM Press
Release dated April 16, 2009.) Since April 2009, Manicouagan has
developed a significant land position in the Pickle Lake area of
over 132 square kilometres in a proven, but underexplored gold
mining camp.
Manicouagan's President and CEO, Joseph Baylis stated, "The
positive results from this initial drill program and the
identification of a potential bulk tonnage exploration target at
the Dobie Zone demonstrate the strong potential of the
Dorothy-Dobie Lake Property. We are currently developing plans for
follow up drilling and exploration on the Dobie Zone and elsewhere
on our significant land holdings in the Pickle Lake gold camp."
Consultations continue with the First Nations in the Pickle Lake
Area (Mishkeegogamang, Slate Falls and Cat Lake) regarding
Manicouagan's planned exploration activities.
Sample Preparation, Analyses and Security
The assay and sample information as well as geological
descriptions are taken from drill logs as prepared by the project
geologists for the drill program. All drill cores are NQ in size
and assays are completed on split or sawed half-cores, with the
second half of the core kept for future reference. The samples are
put into rice bags which are sealed with security locks for
shipping directly to Accurassay Laboratories, an accredited assay
laboratory, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The samples are analysed using
standard fire assay procedures with an AA/ICP finish. Assay results
greater than 1.00 gram per tonne are rerun using a gravimetric
finish. In addition to the standard quality control of the
laboratory, a series of blanks and standards are inserted in every
shipment for quality control purposes.
