MENA Energy Provider to
Connect Power Grid using Redline's Wireless
Infrastructure
TORONTO, May 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Redline Communications
(www.rdlcom.com Group Inc. TSX: RDL), a leading provider of rugged
broadband wireless solutions, today announced their rugged wireless
infrastructure system has been selected to provide connectivity to
500 power substations owned by an energy provider in the
MENA (Middle East/North
Africa) Region
Redline's system, using its eLTE-MT wireless products, will
deliver a multi-use network connecting 500 power substations
located across a 40,000 square kilometre (15,000 square mile) area,
roughly equal to the size of the
Netherlands. The machine-to-machine (M2M) network will be
used to securely monitor and control machinery at the unmanned
stations of the power grid. It will also be used to connect and
control high definition video cameras located at each station,
allowing remote operators to "see" the stations over distances of
up to 30 km (12 miles). Lastly, employees who periodically
travel to the substations will also be able to use their laptops
and smart phones to make calls and connect to their corporate
systems over the Redline network.
"We were selected because our system is versatile, powerful,
rugged and secure," said Eric Melka,
Redline's CEO. "Connecting an entire power grid requires
real-time high speed communication, and flawless operation 24 hours
per day 7 days per week. The implications of failure are
severe, and Redline quite simply has the most reliable and secure
wireless system on the market."
Redline's private wide area networks are the gold standard for
other energy-based applications such as digital oil fields and
public infrastructure monitoring. All of these applications
share common requirements: a network powerful enough to cover long
distances with the smallest number of towers; secure enough to
protect sensitive data; rugged and reliable enough to perform
flawlessly without need for onsite maintenance; and versatile
enough to handle a wide range of data types - from the wire-like
demands of video surveillance communications to the small packet
requirements of M2M communications - all on the same network.
Redline's system delivers on all of these attributes.
"This new customer win extends our footprint in the energy
sector and significant deals like these that well exceed
$1M continue to drive order momentum
and growth," added Melka.
Purpose built for the tough industrial marketplace, the eLTE-MT
features a robust physical design that withstands the harshest
environments. Powerful hardware accelerators ensure all data is
processed and transmitted at speeds of up to 120 Mbps UBR with
wire-line latency. Patented advanced proprietary interference
mitigation maintains optimum performance in noisy and non
line-of-sight conditions, and Quality of Service (QoS) profiles
actively manage traffic priority and flow to dependably deliver
simultaneous streams of data, voice and video traffic in both
uplink and downlink. The eLTE-MT is FIPS 140-2 compliant and
supports full over-the-air (OTA) data with X.509 authentication and
AES encryption for ultra-secure operation. Once installed, the
eLTE-MT provides OTA management, software upgrades and functional
upgrades using license key options that remove the need to
physically access the system.
