SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In response to the
flooding and mudslides that struck El Salvador, Guatemala and
Southern Mexico last week, Wells Fargo -- in conjunction with its
remittance network member banks -- will rebate all remittance
transfer fees for U.S.-based customers sending money using the
InterCuenta Express(R) service to friends and family impacted by
Hurricane Stan. The offer is effective October 10, 2005 through
October 21, 2005. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those
whose lives have been impacted by this natural disaster," said
Daniel Ayala, head of Wells Fargo's Global Remittance Services
Group. "We are united in support for our friends and family members
as they begin the rebuilding and recovery process." Customers can
safely transfer funds up to $3,000 daily from Wells Fargo to Banco
Agricola in El Salvador, and Banco Industrial and Banco de
Desarrollo Rural (Banrural) in Guatemala. Once they open an account
and their beneficiary's account information is verified with the
receiving bank, customers can transfer money to family and friends
in El Salvador and Guatemala through a Wells Fargo store, the
phone, online banking, or an ATM, with funds made available the
following banking day. Funds can be accessed in El Salvador through
Banco Agricola's 60 banking stores and 300 ATM's. In Guatemala,
funds can be accessed through Banco Industrial's 285 banking stores
and 882 ATM's, and Banrural's 315 banking stores and 800 ATM's.
Customers can safely transfer funds to beneficiaries in Mexico's
southern state of Chiapas where they can access their funds through
any of Banorte's 29 banking stores, BBVA Bancomer's 27 banking
stores or HSBC Mexico's 19 banking stores located in that state.
The beneficiary must have an account with one of these banks. The
remittance transfer fee will be automatically rebated on the
InterCuenta Express(R) Account to El Salvador and Guatemala; for
customers wanting to send money to beneficiaries in Chiapas, the
customer must call Wells Fargo's Global Remittance Customer Service
and request the rebate. Customers with questions can call Wells
