Scotts Receives Home Safety Council's Commendation Seal for Pull 'n
Spray(R) Applicator MARYSVILLE, Ohio, May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The
Scotts Company, a subsidiary of the world's leading marketer of
lawn and garden products, ScottsMiracle- Gro, announced today it
has been awarded the Home Safety Council's Commendation Seal for
Safety Innovation. The commendation seal recognizes the safety
features of Scotts' Pull 'n Spray(R) II applicator, which is used
to dispense ready-to-use weed and insect control products sold
under the Ortho(R) and Roundup(R) brands since 2002. This sprayer
was designed for safety, accuracy and usability. With one pull of
the applicator handle, liquid is siphoned into the sprayer wand.
Since no pressure is used, safety risks related to
over-pressurization of the container are completely eliminated. The
applicator also directs the liquid onto the target with precision,
which eliminates waste and protects the environment. Additionally,
Pull 'n Spray II is easy on the user's hand, because just one
sprayer charge is equivalent to 35 strain-producing trigger pulls.
"Our main focus was consumer and environmental safety in designing
the Pull 'n Spray applicator," said Dr. Mustapha Abbaoui, project
manager in Scotts' R&D Packaging Department. "We did this by
ensuring the integrity of the container and controlling the safe
application of the contents in a variety of usage situations." As
one of six companies honored with the safety innovation
commendation seal, Scotts will officially receive this honor at the
Home Safety Council's annual awards ceremony on June 30, 2005, in
Washington, D.C. Through the Commendation Seal program, the Home
Safety Council recognizes manufacturers' outstanding contributions
for product innovations that enhance consumer safety. In order to
be considered for the award, the nominated innovations are to be in
the marketplace for at least one year, in compliance with standards
issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or a similar
regulatory agency and tested by an independent laboratory. About
