LA Fitness PLC (the "Company")

The Company has been notified on 7 January 2004 that as a result of a purchase
of 500,000 ordinary shares of 5p each in the Company ("Ordinary Shares") on 6
January, J O Hambro Capital Management Limited, have a notifiable interest in
1,440,000 Ordinary Shares representing approximately 3.52% of the Company's
issued share capital.

The total holding of 1,440,000 Ordinary Shares in which J O Hambro Capital
Management Group Limited are interested includes a non-material interest for the
purpose of Section 199 2A Companies Act 1985 of 1,388,300 Ordinary Shares in
which a Limited Liability Partnership owned by J O Hambro Capital Management
Group Limited is interested as manager of an undertaking for collective
investments in transferable securities.
