Military Times bases its annual rankings on veteran employee onboarding processes, company training, mentorship programs, Guard and Reserve member policies, and military spouse support.

First Data’s veterans initiative, referred to as First Data Salutes, is an enterprise-wide program that includes recruiting and hiring veterans and military spouses, as well as supporting veteran entrepreneurs. Since the start of the program, First Data has increased the number of veterans and military-affiliated employees by more than 10%. First Data is dedicated to supporting veterans beyond their initial hire, and in 2018, launched its Military Affiliated Analyst Program, which offers veterans and military spouses an opportunity to build their careers within the organization. In addition, First Data’s Military Affinity Group, which supports military-affiliated employees, has grown 450% since its debut in 2014 and boasts nearly 900 members.

First Data has also strengthened its support of Guard and Reserve members via its Commander’s Intent Declaration, which is committed to going above and beyond the legal standards to improve the reintegration of service members returning from extended military service. The company enables military spouses to transfer their role to another First Data office location in the event of a military move, and provides specialized onboarding for military-affiliated employees.
