The Brady Corporation Foundation has announced that Next Door
Foundation, the United Community Center and the Sheldon B. Lubar
School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee are its
2006 Foundation grant recipients. Established last year as the
primary source of charitable contributions for Brady Corporation
(NYSE:BRC), the Brady Corporation Foundation focuses on developing
a pipeline of future leaders who will positively impact the
communities in which Brady operates. The foundation makes
multi-year grants to non-profit organizations focusing on three
primary areas of development: formative development that ensures a
positive start through youth outreach programs and community
outreach organizations; skills development that provides the right
building blocks through primary and secondary school programs; and
leadership development to refine skills at the college level and
beyond. In addition to the multi-year major grants, in 2006, Brady
Corporation and the Brady Corporation Foundation contributed
$120,000 in support of 30 community organizations including the
Agape Community Center, the Wisconsin Foundation for Independent
Colleges, the Wisconsin Academic Decatholon Program, the American
Red Cross and the United Way. The Foundation also has a
gifts-in-kind program which offers Brady products to schools and
other programs related to education and leadership development. We
are very impressed with the impact our first grantees make in our
community, and are proud to now be a part of their continued
success, said Allan Klotsche, chief operating officer of the Brady
Corporation Foundation and president for Brady Asia Pacific. As
the Foundation moves forward, we will be looking for equally
deserving candidates, as well as opportunities for Brady employees
to get involved in making a difference in our communities. We also
hope to expand our efforts beyond the Greater Milwaukee Area. We
understand that good corporate citizenship means supporting the
communities in which we live and work through the involvement of
our employees, the benefits of our products and our financial
support, said Brady President and CEO Frank M. Jaehnert. In the
area of formative development: The Brady Corporation Foundation has
granted $100,000 over two years to Next Door Foundations Leaders
of Tomorrow program focused on providing positive leadership,
educational and recreational experiences that enrich knowledge,
strengthen character and build the foundation for success in the
lives of central city children. Half of Bradys funding is
designated for capital investment in a new Brady Youth Leadership
Training Center. The remaining half of Bradys grant will cover
programming costs for 100 children per year served by the Leaders
of Tomorrow program. This grant will help Next Door Foundation
establish our Leaders of Tomorrow program as a model for youth
leadership that creates adults who are economically independent,
contributing members of our community, said Sharon F. Schulz, Next
Door executive director. In the skills development category: The
Brady Corporation Foundation has granted the United Community
Center (UCC) $90,000 over three years for its Achievers Academy.
The UCC Achievers Academy has a successful track record of
increasing the high school graduation rate of Hispanics in
Milwaukee as well as encouraging their continued education beyond
high school. The grant will provide $25,000 per year for
programming with the remaining $5,000 per year designated for
scholarships. The Brady Corporation Foundation grant is a tribute
to the UCC staff and the community for their hard work, and will
help us to further grow our services to ensure that young people
realize their academic and leadership potential, said Ricardo
Diaz, UCC executive director. In support of leadership development:
The Brady Corporation Foundation has granted $90,000 over three
years to the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business at the UWM to
establish the Brady Corporation Foundation Future Leader Fund.
The goal of the program is to increase students global awareness
and competitiveness, develop leaders for today, and develop
entrepreneurs who will shape tomorrow. It will use funding from the
Foundation to provide international business study resources and
scholarships. Both UWM and Brady have a strong commitment to the
future leadership of this community, and we deeply appreciate their
support as we continue to develop future business leaders who can
meet the challenges of an increasingly competitive and global
business environment, said V. Kanti Prasad, dean of the Sheldon B.
